The College of Engineering & Petroleum provides quality engineering education for the needs of the society, and the institutional vision to develop an elite college as the leading engineering institution in the Middle East, recognized for its outstanding education, research and outreach programs, and for the quality, character, and integrity of its graduates. The college endeavors to create a dynamic academic and research environment, keeping pace with scientific and technological developments in engineering for addressing the immediate and long-term needs of society.
The College has seven departments, offering seven Engineering programs, and awards Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Petroleum and Industrial & Management System Engineering. Graduate programs leading to Masters of Science degree are offered in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. The students are admitted into the College after successful completion of secondary school, with science major or equivalent, and with a minimum overall score of 80%. The number of registered students in the academic year 2007/2008 was 3,160, and since its establishment, the College has graduated 7,077 students with Bachelor’s degree, and 730 with Master’s. The College has 209 staff members, and a well-developed scholarship program facilitates Kuwaiti nationals to pursue doctoral studies aboard. Students in the engineering programs must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 144 credits, with a common 73-credit component under core Engineering Curriculum, and 71 credits for departmental major courses.
All Engineering programs have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc. since 2008. Previously, they were recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. The College is committed to the continuous improvement of its programs as part of the accreditation process. Towards that end, the Office of Academic Assessment has been coordinating the continuous assessment process in the college.
