Kuwait University Professor of Petroleum Engineering Eissa M. Al-Safran was awarded the 2023 Distinguished Service Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers- International (SPE- International), a prominent engineering professional association based in the United States. The award ceremony was held in San Antonio, Texas in the period spanning October 16-18, 2023. SPE-International’s Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals whose contributions to the association demonstrate exceptional dedication of time and effort and exhibit excellence among the contributions of their peers.

Professor Al-Safran is distinguished by his teaching tenure at Kuwait University and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his research carried out through an international research collaboration program. He has also co-authored several SPE textbooks that are taught at universities in the United States and has published over 100 research papers in internationally recognized academic journals and international conferences.

Professor Al-Safran is the supervisor of the SPE Student Club at Kuwait University, a member of the Board of Directors of the SPE branch in Kuwait, a member of the SPE Middle East & North Africa Advisory Council and serves as a technical editor on SPE publications.

The SPE serves more than 107,000 members worldwide and is a key resource for technical knowledge related to the oil and gas industry. Each year, the SPE presents awards to members whose efforts have contributed to the development of petroleum technology, honoring their professional achievements and contributions to industry and society. And on this occasion, Professor Al-Safran extended his sincere thanks to Kuwait University, represented by university administration and the administration of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, for their continued support.
