Principles

The applied load can be applied in a wide range, from micro (10g to 1000g) to macro (1kg to 100kg), to cover all testing requirements. The indentation size is computed based on an optical measurement system. The Microhardness test procedure, ASTM E-384 / E-92, ISO, JIS (Nadcap) standards specify a range of light loads using a diamond indenter to make an indentation which is measured and converted to a hardness value.

Capabilities

  • Hardness values can be converted to other scales according to ISO 18265, ISO 50150.
  • Autofocus makes fast & precise focus from a large distance, as far as the travel of the Z-axis allows.
  • Automatic measurement enables refined measurement algorithms detect indents even on very poor or scratched surfaces and measure the relevant indent dimensions according to standards.
  • Measuring the surface of a part, small parts or small areas, measuring individual microstructures, or measuring the depth of case hardening by sectioning a part and making a series of indentations to describe a profile of the change in hardness.

Applications

  • Has one of the widest scales among hardness tests.
  • Useful for testing on a wide type of materials.
  • Testing very thin materials like foils is possible.
